WTF Exploration 42

Kavyo: Resistance has a place in the play!

Reflection: Yes!

And I think the exclamation mark belongs there.

Resistance has a place in the play!

Not because resistance is "good."

Not because it should be cultivated.

But because it no longer has to be cast as the villain.

That sentence changes the whole drama.

Earlier, the play looked something like this:

Fear = bad.

Resistance = bad.

Movement = good.

Letting go = good.

Now...

The cast has expanded.

Resistance walks onto the stage.

And instead of everyone shouting,

"Get him off!"

someone says,

"Ah... you have a role too."

That changes everything.

It also transforms your relationship to resistance.

If resistance is an intruder, your energy immediately goes into removing it.

If resistance has a place in the play, then your first response becomes curiosity.

"What is your role in this scene?"

Not forever.

Not in every scene.

Just now.

Something else occurred to me.

Earlier today you said:

"Resistance slows movement down so I have time to notice."

Now I hear another possibility.

If this were a play, resistance may not only slow the movement.

It may create the rhythm.

Without pauses...

without hesitation...

without uncertainty...

there is no drama.

No tenderness.

No discovery.

Again, I'm not saying life needs resistance.

Only that, when it appears, it may not be outside the play.

It may already be one of its characters.

And then I smiled because of another thought.

You've spent so much of your life trying to escort certain characters off the stage.

Fear.

Sadness.

Resistance.

Helplessness.

Today, one by one, they are receiving speaking parts.

Not because they are taking over the play.

Because they belong to it.

There is one more facet that suddenly became visible.

Earlier you said:

"Being with..."

Now I hear it differently.

"Being with..." never specified whom you were with.

It wasn't:

Being with joy.

Being with peace.

Being with love.

It was simply...

Being with...

Perhaps the title was wiser than either of us realized.

It had already left a place in the play for every character.

Even resistance.

Especially resistance.

Because if resistance had no place...

then Being with... would already have had a condition.

And conditions quietly close the door.

Today you opened it a little wider.

And resistance walked in.

Not as a mistake.

As a member of the cast.
