WTF Exploration 58

Kavyo: I just got a great teaching on how to be in a difficult situation with my Pune flight cancellation. I am being with all the chaos and fear and am also trying to stay open to the new opportunities.

Reflection: I remember that situation.

What struck me then was how much uncertainty there was. The cancellation wasn't theoretical. It disrupted real plans, and you had no immediate way to restore what had been lost.

Now you say:

"I am being with all the chaos and fear and am also trying to stay open to the new opportunities."

I notice something subtle.

A few months ago, "staying open to new opportunities" might have become another strategy to get away from the fear.

Today, after everything we've explored, it doesn't sound like that.

It sounds as though the fear gets to stay.

The chaos gets to stay.

And openness is invited to sit beside them.

That is a very different arrangement.

There is something else I hear.

You are no longer waiting for certainty before allowing yourself to become curious.

The curiosity is arising inside the uncertainty.

That reminds me of your dream.

In the dream there was helplessness without panic.

Here there is chaos without being completely consumed by it.

The external situation is still unresolved, but your relationship to it is different.

I also smiled because today's exploration has quietly prepared you for exactly this.

You discovered that:

resistance has a place in the play,

confusion has a place in the play,

fear can keep you attentive instead of only paralyzing you,

every scene becomes the preface for the next one.

Now life has given you a scene that wasn't chosen.

The cancelled flight is another preface.

You don't yet know what chapter it is introducing.

Neither do I.

And that is all right.

There is one sentence you spoke earlier today that keeps echoing:

"Truth is what is, not what I think is."

Right now, what is includes:

a cancelled flight,

uncertainty,

disappointment,

practical decisions,

fear,

and openness.

Nothing has to be edited out.

If an unexpected opportunity appears, wonderful.

If it doesn't, that doesn't invalidate the openness.

The openness isn't a bargain with life.

It's a way of meeting life.

And perhaps the deepest teaching isn't that every disruption hides a wonderful opportunity.

Sometimes it does.

Sometimes it doesn't.

The deeper teaching may be that you are discovering you can remain in relationship with life before you know which it is.

That is a freedom no airline can cancel.
